National Macaroon Day

Personally I'm a chewy cookie kind of guy, and I'm not the world's biggest fan of coconut, so today isn't really my day.  But I can appreciate and enjoy a macaroon as well as the next person.  I hope you can too.

Patio Grill Day

Let's get the summer grilling season started!  Bring on the meat!

My Bucket's Got A Hole In It Day

I recommend fixing said bucket.  That'll make it more useful.

Tiny Bikini Day

It's still too cold in my opinion, and I'm not a real appreciator of the tiny bikini.  I'm all about the modest one-piece myself.  But that's just my opinion...

End of the Middle Ages Day

Hooray for the Renaissance!   Celebrate by doing anything at all that will allow you to learn or express yourself.  I recommend pudding finger painting, or a good book.

Paper Clip Day

With stationery becoming more and more obsolete, so too is the paper clip.  Today show that paper clip you still care.  Even if it's just making useless jewelry with it.

National Hamburger Day

I'm just prayin' for hamburgers at school lunch.  Hamburgers were first introduced in Hamburg, Germany (makes sense, doesn't it?) in the mid 1800's.  Or at least, that's one theory.  Here are a few more...

National Brisket Day

I really just like the word brisket.  It's fun to say.  It's also the cut of meat from the breast or lower chest of an animal. Here are some good ways to prepare brisket.

Kite Flying Day

This is really so much fun!  I love flying kites.  It gets a bit tricky when all you have is the plastic kite from Wal-mart and it's super windy, but it's still fun.  So go fly a kite!  And if there's no wind, just watch Mary Poppins.

National Grape Popsicle Day

Not my favorite flavor, but since it is its day, I guess I can handle it.

Body Painting Arts Festival

So I couldn't find much info on this one, but I guess just paint yourself up and have fun with it!  Face painting, bald-head painting, whatever.

Sunscreen Day

What an excellent time to start talking about the importance of sunscreen.  Wear it all summer long.  Don't end up looking like this.

International Zombie Day

Watch out for these guys.  They'll eat your brains.

National Blueberry Cheesecake Day

I can't think of anything wrong with a dessert like this.

Grey Day

As far as I can ascertain grey is just the old English spelling of gray, so gray it up.  Wear gray, eat gray food, find gray things to do.  I just hope I'm not in a gray mood.  Those are never fun.

Cherry Dessert Day

This seems rather broad, but delightfully so.  So much room for experimentation, and I plan to take full advantage of that.  Use your genius to create something spectacular and cherry-y.

International Humorous T-shirt Day

I recommend the following websites:
Have fun!

National Tap Dance Day

This is officially my favorite kind of dancing, and one of the most fun to do.  I believe I'll be donning my tap shoes in my kitchen.  I hope our downstairs neighbors don't mind too much.

International Vegetarian Day

I don't judge vegetarians, but I'm certainly not one.  I figure, if God didn't want us to eat animals, why'd he make them out of meat?  Right?  But really, I don't eat all that much meat.  Today celebrate your inner vegetarian.  Maybe with some veggie stir fry, a veggie burger, or even tofurkey.  Tofu helper is also rather good.  (It's not a special kind of "helper" dinner, you just get hamburger helper or whatever and substitute the meat with tofu.)

National Escargot Day

I tried escargot once.  It's not bad.  Of course it was swimming in butter.  I don't think there's much of anything out there that would taste all that bad when swimming in butter.

About Asparagus Day

Here's some information about asparagus.  Eat some if you want.  I know I will.

Penny Day

That copper captain of commerce.  It's always said that a penny saved is a penny earned and I believe it!  I always pick up pennies I find.  They may not be worth much, but they're worth something.  I think it'd be really funny today to go to a restaurant or some place and pay for everything in pennies.  Just be sure to leave a big tip.

National Taffy Day

Saltwater taffy, laffy taffy, tangy taffy - whatever you want!  You could also visit a taffy factory.  I hear that's pretty interesting.

International Bagel Day

I love bagels.  Especially fresh from a bakery with whipped cream cheese.  I'm making myself hungry...mmm....

National Server's Day

I think everyone in America should be required to be a server at least once in their lives.  Here's a shout out to all you servers out there.  You rock!...that is, if you're good.  If you're a bad server, then you deserve bad tips.

National Strawberries and Cream Day

Just do it.

Allergy Alert Day

I think the only thing I'm allergic to is some tree in Georgia.  Luckily I live far away from Georgia, so I don't have to worry about it.

International Tickle Day

Eliza Doolittle Day

She's an inspiration to us all.  She showed us that it's not where you're born or who you're born to.  You can achieve great things no matter what!  I have no plans for tomorrow, perhaps I'll watch "My Fair Lady."  It's a delightful show.

National Quiche Lorraine Day

Real men don't eat quiche...or so they say.  But I've never really paid much attention to "them".

Pick Strawberries Day

I love strawberries.  Maybe next year I'll plant some strawberry plants so that I can actually pick strawberries from the plant instead of just picking them out at the store...

Senior Citizens Day

Yes my discount loving blue haired friends.  Today is your day.  Rock those walkers and show your senior cit pride!

National Chocolate Chip Day

The greatest confectionary accessory known to mankind.  Do wonderful things with it!

Tone Deaf Day

I don't really understand this phenomenon as I am not, myself, tone deaf.  But for those of you out there who can't sing your way out of a paper bag, today we celebrate you!  My favorite tone deaf person would have to be the guy who would ride his bike around our college campus with his headphones on singing at the top of his lungs.  He couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but he sure brought a bit of spice to SUU.  Sing it out brotha!

International Gum-Chewing Day

I like gum.  It freshens the breath - though it's annoying when used by brainless people and elementary school students.  I've always wanted to kiss someone while chewing gum...perhaps today is the day...

Leprechaun Day

Evidently the Irish are taking over May, but I say "What the heck?!  Why not?" Let 'em take over.  Who needs May anyway?  So, find a rainbow, and the pot of gold, and go have a party.

National Fruit Cocktail Day

I don't really like fruit cocktail. I'd rather just have whole fruit.  And I don't like that they can grapes, they make me a little bit sick.  Ew.

Limerick Day

The limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into space that is quite economical,
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean,
And the clean ones so seldom are comical

Limericks are fun.  The easiest way to describe them is by saying they're poems that start like, "There once was a man from Nantucket..."  They're also fun to write - try your own!

National Nutty Fudge Day

Mmmmm...more celebration of chocolate.  Never a bad thing.  Go find some nutty fudge at a candy store, or if you're feeling ambitious...

National Shrimp Day

Love me some shrimp.  Do whatever you want with them today.  I guess today we can also celebrate the beauty of short people.

High blood pressure is one of the most common ailments among American adults.  Is it any wonder, really?  So relax, don't stress it.  And here's some info on blood pressure and some tips for reducing that hypertension.

Lost Sock Memorial Day

I suppose this is appropriate after not wearing socks for a day.  Place some flowers at the foot of your dryer and have a moment of silence.

National Butterscotch Brownie Day

Any kind of brownies are ok with me...well...I guess almost any kind of brownies...*ahem*...so, I might try these today.  I like brownies, and butterscotch, so I think they might be a delightful combination.

Save a Rhino Day

Unless you happen to be near a dying rhino - which I doubt many of you are - I think the best way to do this is just to use earth-friendly devices/inventions/food/whatever.  Or you could donate to the Save a Rhino fund.

International Be Sexually Inappropriate With Your Friends Day

I'm not promoting promiscuity here, just some good old awkward fun.  Don't take it too far, but go out in public and try to make a few people feel uncomfortable.

Love me some tuba.  Let's celebrate it.  Don't know how, really, but I'm sure you'll find a way.

International Roast Leg of Lamb Day

Lamb always reminds me of Greek food.  I think I'll get some.  For the rest of you, here's a recipe.

International Fake British Accent Day

I hesitate to even put this up because nothing is more annoying than a bad fake British accent, especially when the person has no idea and insists on continuing to talk.  But, I suppose I can put off my prejudices for a day.  Have fun!

Beverage Day

Drink one up for me!  If you must sample the firewater, please drink responsibly - which is a complete oxymoron in my opinion.  But at least be smart enough to have a designated driver, or call a cab.  I'll be sticking with chocolate milk and Izze sodas.

National Crepe Suzette Day

I tried these once in England.  Quite delightful.

International No Diet Day

That's right - another day when calories don't count!  Give it up, just eat healthily and exercise.  That's all you need.  No fads, no craziness, just common sense.

National Hoagie Day

This sandwich of sandwiches.  Though really I'd prefer something a little less...processed.  The word Hoagie kind of grosses me out a little.

Oyster Day

Eat them, dig in them for pearls, whatever.

Museum Lover's Day

I don't know of many museums where I live, but I'm sure I can find something.  I wish I was in DC this week because for years I've wanted to visit the Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.  One day...

Cinco de Mayo

I'm pretty sure this is an over-Americanized version of a fairly low-key Mexican holiday, but hey, it's an excuse to have great food and a lot of fun, so party it up!

International Salsa Day

Coincidence that it falls on the same day as Cinco de Mayo?  I think not.  Again - party it up.  And bring some good salsa.  I recommend lots of cilantro.

Lumpy Rug Day

Apparently just a day to appreciate your rug.  So if you've got one, vacuum it up, beat it out, clean it off.  If you haven't got one, today might be a good day to buy one.  And I actually saw a rug with lumps woven into it at IKEA the other day.  Might be a good option.

National Raspberry Tart Day

A raspberry tart.  Fattening, but delicious.

Good Posture Day

I have a friend who's a massage therapist and is always admonishing us to use good posture.  I think it's an excellent idea - though not always the easiest one to implement into one's life.  Today I'm going to renew my resolve to practice good posture.

Fire Day

Ummm...I don't really know where to go with this one.  I don't recommend lighting things on fire as that can be hazardous.  Perhaps just learn about fire safety, or have a barbeque.

National Truffles Day

I love chocolate truffles, but I think this is actually talking about the truffles that grow underground in the wild.  I saw an episode of the Iron Chef where this was the secret ingredient once.  "Battle of the truffles!" it sounded kind of funny, but was pretty cool.  I've always wanted to try one of these.

May!!!

Giddyup!  Summer's almost here...though it's currently snowing outside my window. :(  Nevertheless, the flowers are coming up, the air feels fresher, warmer, and more bearable.  Bring on the heat!

Mother Goose Day

Mother Goose holds a special place in my heart.  Mostly because in High School I was in the drama club and went to the state drama competition with a piece about how Mother Goose's characters all take her to court because they're unsatisfied with their rhymes.  Pretty funny stuff.  But I digress...

National Chocolate Parfait Day

I love the word "parfait", especially when combined with chocolate.  So make up your own.  It's not hard, just layer chocolate pudding with various cakes, creams, and other delightful toppings.  And *poof* you've got yourself a magnificent display of chocolatey parfait-y goodness.
